QUOTE (thehod @ August 26, 2009 03:17 pm)
There are some quality players at both Rhubarb and Sci-Fi that I would take any day as a team.

The AO team went into Adepticon and placed highly despite being a rookie team that year. Contrary to some other ill-informed opinions, Adepticon is pretty much the height of competitive gaming.

As for store to store stuff: Its personal preference much like many other things.

They did a lot better than Team Rhubarb's rookie Year. We were so bad, we changed our name the day of the tourney.

Team AO did well because of the power combination of Laz's strategy and Solomons dice whoring.

I am sure if we had a team consisting of Carter, Vince, and Laz, a blackhole will form and swallow adepticon hole.

All kidding aside, our team was pretty sound tactically without me. Michael was a very good student of the game (who just happened to be a total cheese & dice whore as well). Both you & Bob do fine in that department as well.....finishing 6th of 90 isn't bad but it would have been even higher had our painting been up to snuff (looking at you Mahu). We'd likely have jumped to 3rd or 4th on that alone. Display board was another issue but that was the first event of it's kind for me - you live and learn.

It was a fun time but ultimately soured me on the Sunday Championship. Hard for me to justfiy that sort of expense for that type of outcome.

I did try to assemble what I'd consider a "dream team" for Adepticon but could not make it happen. It isn't just getting the players you want - it's also choosing what army you're going to do.

If I where to do it this year (which I have seriously considered), I would assemble you, Vince, Carter, and myself. Play Orks and call it the "Ork's Suck: Battlewagon Bonanza and Dinner Show", and just use Vince and Carter's models.

I would skip the Gladiator and just play open gaming and attend some hobby workshops that day. I may try my hand at the Championships.

That is if I was going again.

Sorry, we can't win with those models and you know it. The edge and commitment needed require you to have a master class army and display board in my opinion....unless you don't like winning that is....you saw what it did to our scores last time and we were waaay above the average.

I don't know about that, Vinces Nobz and Warbosses are of an extreme quality. I think that painting is sufficient to at least compensate for the scores we had the first year.

Besides, actually winning a team tournament is a very rare thing, and though I would go into it with the intention of doing so, I would be more then satisfied placing in the top 5.

The Team Tournament to me is the only reason to go through the effort of attending Adepticon. I don't feel I really need to prove anything.

As far as the display board, I was thinking of a variation of the Wrecking Crew's Ork drive in theatre from the last year we attended, except it would be an opera. biggrin.gif

Averaged of what we had maybe. I'd be looking for 4 armies that looked like mine & Bob's but that's just how I roll. (lol)

Still, you try to win. The only things under your control is what your armies & board look like. To not max that out already endangers you of not placing. Leave the luck to the games themselves.

I certainly like the team tourney the best of the events there....

I agree with you for the most part.

Maybe I will approach the dream team on Saturday about a possible bid.
